What wine should I serve with this incredible meal?


We've discussed how best to match wines with what you’re serving and it often comes down to individual tastes. But there are some general guidelines that are helpful. I offer these from the Web site of the California Winery Advisor:

"Match rich foods with rich full-bodied wines; sweet foods need a sweet wine; salty foods need a strong, fruit forward wine for balance; fish needs a medium-bodied wine for balance; poultry can thrive with many a bottle; Spicy & Hot foods enjoy the company of lightly sweet, fruity wines with low tannins."

This site also lists all the California wine regions, and has extensive information on all the wineries, tours, tastings and wine-country recipes.

  1. Well.... What I've learned is that if it's red, it goes. If it's white, it might go. If it was free, it's great, and if it's bubbly... you'd better have two.

    I do enjoy wine with dinner, friends etc...oh heck, even alone.....
    Having the right wine with dinner does enhance the taste. Thank you for this blog.

    This is another great blog full of good information. When I clicked on the link that you provided I could not believe all the usable facts that were on the California Winery Advisor site. There's also a cool link that gives info on all the wine regions in the state. Many of these wineries have dinners and cooking demonstrations. I'm definitley going to make this oen of my Favorites on my computer.

  5. I was thinking of a barbecue with about 12 people. Steak, baked potato, salad. . . so what else? And what about dessert for a bunch of big eaters?

  6. I recently had a great pinot noir that would go great w/just about anything. It was Tolosa 2006. You can find it at most stores. Just a suggestion.

  9. I love the wines from the Central Coast, although they are not quite the quality of the Napa Valley, but they are getting there.

  10. Hey there, Anon, the Central Coast wines are absolutely just as good as those from the Napa Valley, and the judges have been showing that in recent competitions. Let's not be a wine snob on this food blog.
